On December 9th I retracted and deleted my post on X regarding the man who was taken into custody as the alleged assassin of UnitedHealthcare’s Brian Thompson (may he rest in peace).
Why? Why did I retract and delete it? Because I don’t know if Luigi Mangione is guilty or innocent. I don’t know all of the evidence against Luigi Mangione. All I knew was what the legacy media AND conservative, mainly independent media had told me: “this is the guy” (Legacy media) and “he’s a ‘Lefty’!” (Conservative media). And the irony? He may not even be “the guy” AND he doesn’t appear to be a “Lefty” at all…or a “Righty”, for that matter. The bottom line is, at the time of my posting nobody, including me, knew much of anything about Luigi Mangione. But that’s no excuse. But I DO know this: we are a country of laws…that’s one of the things that makes America great.
With that in mind, please do not forget that anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until a lawful court validates that innocence or casts the presumption aside with a legal conviction of guilt. Presumption of Innocence is what makes our legal system great.
After I posted my shameful condemnation of a total stranger (whom I knew nothing about) on X, I realized my detective objectivity had been taken into custody and thrown into a prison cell by my own rage. I’d been manipulated by the media. They had stoked my rage against the Left and I let this cloud my judgement. This made me lose my way. In that moment of this person’s capture, I temporarily adopted that same Kafka’ish irrationality and committed the mortal sin for a detective: I put feelings over facts. But I didn’t post that proactively following an investigation. No, I posted it to feed demons that I had let run free, fueled by the worst feelings and most dangerous emotions.
But now I’m gathering facts… and whether or not those facts lead to a conviction or an acquittal of Mr Mangione does not matter.
All that matters is this:
We CANNOT become our enemies. They hate our justice system, that’s why they want to burn it to the ground. They do this by ignoring the rule of law, especially by ignoring the presumption of innocence.
Now many of my fellow conservatives are doing the same. Not just people on X, but major conservative voices with lots of influence. I realized I was doing the same thing…so I stopped, retracted, and to do my penance I have dedicate my own time and skills to launching an investigation of my own into this case. I cannot become that which I despise: an emotional fool who ignores facts, rushes to judgement, and lets his anger wrongfully imprison his common sense and objectivity. I cannot become my enemies. You shouldn’t become them either.
So standby for my investigative reports on this here on Substack and on my show on DailyClout.io, “Investigate Everything.” Last week I started my penance and did a 4+ hour livestream where I laid out all that I knew up to that point. It’s a bit manic but I had to, and it was useful as I got calls from several media outlets who had been watched my video. I will keep going too. I can’t stop as I betrayed my principals with that post and now I need to fix anything I may have broken that could contribute to undermining the cause of blind justice.
I am doing this for me, but I am also doing this for you too. This could be any one of us. If it is someday, we will want to be presumed innocent and we will cling to our defense lawyers like one clings to a life raft. If I can share and participate in this work with you, we will all be wiser and be able to protect ourselves from any future injustices that may befall us. Most importantly, I am doing this to preserve our justice system and help get it back on the right track. I cannot sit by and let Alvin Bragg’s office ignore a key pillar in our justice system: presumption of innocence.
So I am investigating everything about this case with a compass named “Objectivity” and under a banner of “presumed innocence”. I hope you’ll join me.
So, yes…I got lost and I’m sorry. But I promise…I’ll never get lost again. Please accept my apology, America.
You’re welcome and thank you for reading it…it was weighing on me
This is a great reminder for each of us to reset! Thank you
